Biography
Dr. Jorge Gaytan
was born in the
city of Chihuahua, Mexico. His father Pedro, currently
in Heaven, was a chemical engineer and his mother,
Aurora, currently in Heaven, had the wonderful and
extremely difficult housewife role. Jorge has three brothers named
Juan Enrique, Pedro Sergio, and Arnoldo Ricardo. Jorge
is thankful to Jesus The Christ for having been Blessed with wonderful
parents and he gives credit to his parents and Christ for all of his
accomplishments.
Although he had entered The United States on numerous
occasions for pleasure, on September 25, 1981, he
entered The United States with the intention to reside
for a year with the purpose of learning the English
language. He was hosted by a priest, named Fr.
Donald G. Potts, who lived in Michigan. Fr. Potts, a
generous Christian individual, added a new dimension to
Jorge's life. Fr. Potts was Jorge's best friend,
mentor, and spiritual director. Fr. Potts passed away on
May 31, 2017. Jorge was also nourished by the Zerfas
Family, as it became his "American family." Both Fr.
Potts and the Zerfas family turned out to be experts in
the field of loving others, as they are truly committed
to teaching people the path to follow in order to reach
God.
Dr. Gaytan immediately fell in love with the United
States
and its people. He decided to remain in this country
to attend college. Jorge earned a Bachelor of
Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree
in Computer Information Systems from Western Michigan
University. Upon graduation, he accepted a position as
a computer programmer. This position eventually turned
into a systems analyst job. Two years later, he became
manager of a branch of an oil corporation.
Dr. Gaytan left Michigan to come to El Paso, Texas, in
an attempt to reside in an American city located near
his hometown. He decided to pursue graduate study. He earned a Master of Business
Administration (MBA) degree from The University of Texas
at El Paso and
accepted a position as a full-time computer information
systems Lecturer in the Department of Information and
Decision Sciences, College of Business Administration,
The University of Texas at El Paso.
In the Spring of 2000, he earned a Doctorate Degree
focused on the effective integration of instructional technology into the
learning environment of institutions of higher
education, from The University of Texas at El Paso. In
the fall of the same year, he accepted a full-time
position as an Assistant Professor and Director of
Business Education, Georgia
Southwestern State University.
Dr. Gaytan has two children, Christopher and Jessica.
The are both the "driving force" to successfully assume
any challenge in life and complete any task before him.
Dr. Gaytan was Director of Business Education in the
Richards College of Business at the University of West
Georgia from 2001 to 2007. Since 2008, he is serving as an
Associate Professor in the Department of Management,
Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics, North Carolina A&T
State University, Greensboro, North Carolina.
Some of his hobbies include soccer, lightweight training,
and sand volleyball.
